What is Lumigan?

Bitmatoprost ophthalmic solution is most commonly used to reduce intraocular pressure in patients with glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Researchers noticed that the drug had the side effect of stimulating eyelash growth and darkening of the eyelashes in patients with glaucoma.

The active ingredient in Lumigan is bitmatoprost, a prostaglandin analogue. There are different phases in the eyelash cycle and the duration of the growth phase (of eyelash follicles) crucially impacts hair length. It is thought that bitmatoprost prolongs the duration of the growth phase maximising eyelash growth.

How did I use Lumigan?

The recommended dosage is one application nightly to the skin of the upper eyelid margin at the base of the eyelashes only.

How often do I use Lumigan for?

Results are seen from as little as 10 days but properly from 4 weeks. The maximum results are achieved at 16 weeks.

It is recommended that you keep using Lumigan to maintain the results, but simply reduce the frequency, as its effects will start to wear off and the lashes will return to their normal state if you stopped using the product altogether. A maintenance dose of every other night is recommended after 12 weeks.
