Acne

Acne is a very common skin condition that most people area affected by at some point in their lives

Severe Acne on the cheek and chin

It is usually due to hormonal changes such as puberty and pregnancy but it can affect people at any pointy in their lives and sometimes the cause in unknown. Acne most commonly occurs on the face but it can also affect the chest and back.

Acne develops when there is an increase in sebum, an oily substance that lubricates your hair and skin. Sebum, along with dead skin cells can block tiny holes in the skin known as hair follicles causing inflammation and acne spots.

If the blocked follicle is close to the skins surface, it will bulge outwards creating a whitehead. Alternatively, the blocked follicle can be open to the skin, creating a blackhead. Bacteria that usually lives on the skin without causing problems can then contaminate and infect the blocked hair follicles causing papules, pustules or cysts.

Acne can be measured as mild, moderate and severe. The severity of the acne will be assessed at consultation and the correct treatment protocol put in place.

Here at Eterno Aesthetics we understand the profound effect Acne can have on a persons self-esteem and we have a range of treatments and skincare solutions that can help to treat and manage the problem.
