Treatment
One of the main causes is the oil producing gland (sebaceous). They are tiny glands found near the service of the skin. These glands are attached to hair follicles. The sebaceous gland lubricates the hair to stop the skin from drying out. This produces an oily substance called sebum.
In acne affected skin, the gland produces too much sebum, when this is mixed with dead skin cells it forms a plug in the follicle. This then causes either white or blackheads. We also have harmless bacteria on our skin too which can then contaminate and infect the blocked follicles causing papules, pustules, nodules or cysts.
If like our clinic coordinator who suffered from moderate acne when she was younger, she tried everything from over the counter (non-prescription) products to antibiotics and topical medication, yes the antibiotics did work but they are never a long term solution.
